What is Ember?
Ember is Emergent’s practical division for students in data science and AI, offering hackathons, professor-guided Kaggle projects, and advanced tracks for hands-on learning. Its active Discord community supports collaboration, knowledge sharing, and coordination of both general Emergent events and specialized AI/data science activities.
Each semester, we work in groups of up to 4 or 5 students on a Kaggle knowledge project, supervised by a professor.
We participate in data science and AI hackathons to tackle interesting challenges and develop our public speaking skills while rapidly creating high-quality proofs of concept in a short timeframe.
We run multi-day advanced tracks on topics like machine learning and deep learning, in partnership with leading AI companies, where students gain practical experience through hands-on projects.

Four AI startups (Claimbee, Timeseer, Hyperfox, and Al-D) will share how they build AI that delivers real value, focusing on the engineering behind their models. Expect insights on topics like whether their models are built from scratch, what data they use, which pre-trained models they rely on, and how they fine-tune them. The evening ends with drinks and networking in Zaal Couvreur, offering a chance to meet the speakers and other AI enthusiasts.
Ember, the technical division of Emergent Leuven, proudly presents the “Research AI – Meetup.” This unique meetup brings together four KU Leuven PhD students, each pioneering AI research in distinct fields and industries. Whether you’re passionate about the latest breakthroughs or simply curious about how artificial intelligence is reshaping our world, this is your chance to hear directly from the minds shaping tomorrow.

This challenge highlights the difficulties in modeling financial markets, including fat-tailed distributions, non-stationary time series, and sudden shifts in market behavior. This hands-on, multi-session program connects students with industry experts to tackle real-world AI challenges. Taking place over 3 to 5 evenings in March and April, each session is hosted by ML6 and guides participants through practical machine learning and deep learning topics
